Hey everybody! This month has been fairly uneventful, except that I have started a new short story for a myth retelling anthology. I was going to submit The Truth of Winter, but since I already submitted it to another anthology (who I haven’t heard back from yet), I decided it would be prudent (and fun) to write a new story.
The story I decided to do is a science fiction retelling of the Osiris and Iris myth. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the basic plot is that Osiris’ brother Set becomes jealous of Osiris, kills him, dismembers him and throws the pieces into the Nile. Osiris’ wife, Isis, finds all of Osiris’ body parts, puts them back together and resurrects him. However, Osiris is “incomplete”, and he cannot stay in the world of the living, so he descends into Duat (the Egyptian underworld) and becomes the ruler there.
The current title I am using for this story is DUAT. To give you an idea of where I’m going with it, I’ve been watching Altered Carbon and Upload and reading Tom Clancy.
I’ve also made this basic aesthetic, featuring Omar Landry (Osiris) and his wife Iris (Isis):

As for my other projects, I’ve taken a break from draft 2 of War of Souls (currently at ~84k words) to focus on this short story and my novel One With Dragons is still out with the second round of betas.
Wish me luck!
